When you’re ranked as the second richest person in the world, talking about money is your business. Whether it’s personal or professional, it’s a topic that will always either be brought up by you or the people surrounding you. For billionaire Elon Musk, this is very much the case and can be seen from his daily tweets on Twitter. But what came off as all too casual as one of his tweets has started a global ticking time clock…
On January 22, 2021, Elon Musk nonchalantly tweeted that he would be donating $100 million towards a prize for the best carbon capture technology. With over 70,000 shares and 600,000 likes on his post, it’s needless to say that Elon broke the internet with his business proposition on social media. We may not be scientists, but even this amount of money is enough to entice us to enter this race against time and money.
What’s Carbon Capture Technology and Why Should You Care?
So obviously, carbon capture must be a pretty big deal if Elon Musk is willing to invest his money in it, right? Right. Carbon capture can help reduce global carbon dioxide emissions by almost a fifth while also reducing the costs spent trying to save the world from climate change. Basically, we need this to keep our world alive for many more years to come.
This is exactly why Elon is spearheading this project, by, of course, not only enticing the geniuses of the world to get their brains in gear with his money but yet another iconic platform he can attach his name to. Yes, this will most likely make Elon even richer than he already is.
So Who’s the Lucky Winner?
Following his initial tweet about the prize, Elon then posted a second tweet on the same day, eluding to more information by saying “details next week.” Well, over a week has gone by, and there have been no further updates regarding the timeline, rules, or any information at all as to who can be a contender for this moolah! Does Elon not understand that the smartest people in the world are trying to help save the planet and cash in?!
Just because you’re one of the wealthiest people in the world doesn’t mean you get to keep the world dangling by a thread here! So this being said, in the meantime, you too still have a chance to create groundbreaking technology that will help rewrite the history of the environment of our planet. We wish you all the best of luck, and remember sending us our share for keeping you informed on this endeavor.
