Meet the Heroes of Hollywood Who Have Dedicated Themselves To Giving These Animals a Second Chance

Mon Apr 25 2022

Everyone deserves a furry companion to keep them from feeling too lonely on cold nights. Everyone deserves to be looked at with the love and adoration that a pet can give us, we just need to make sure we’re giving them that love right back. With the rise of breeders and the overpopulation of animals, other animals are tossed aside and find it harder to end up in a loving home.

Like many others across the world, many celebrities see the incredible importance of giving many animals a second chance. Whether they’re opening a farm to help rehabilitate injured animals, or they’re adopting a pandemic pet, these big-named celebrities are doing their part in giving every pet, regardless of their history, a good and loving home.

Nick and Priyanka Adopted Multiple Rescue Dogs

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra are the proud parents to many dogs, including a German Shephard named Gino. Gino was recently joined by a new sibling, a rescue Husky named Panda. Panda came from Hollywood Huskies, a Los Angeles-based rescue for Huskies and Husky mixes. These multi-colored snow creatures need all the help they can get finding a new home.

His parents shared posts on their Instagram pages to celebrate his arrival during the initial pandemic lockdown in Spring 2020. Back in July 2020, Chopra Jonas captioned a photo, “Our new family portrait! Welcome to the family, Panda!” We adopted this little rescue (soon he won’t be so little) just a few weeks ago. We can’t be sure but he seems to be a Husky Australian Shepherd mix… and those eyes… and the ears!”

Hilary Duff Adopted an Alpaca

So many animals need loving homes. That expands far beyond the cute kitties and doggies we see posted for adoption on the adoption message boards. As far as we know, many other celebrities like Hilary Duff and Ariana Grande have taken it upon themselves to rescue farm animals, like this gorgeous alpaca photographed below.

Hilary Duff and her boyfriend, Matthew Koma, adopted Ivan the alpaca. The two are working on becoming farm people and decided that rescuing a farm animal would be a great addition to their new life. They decided it was time to try out a new lifestyle and wanted some real farming responsibilities while they adjusted to a simpler life.

Chelsea Handler Lives to Rescue

Chelsea Handler is an open book. If you ask what her favorite things are, she’d probably say rescue dogs. She’s had several over the years and treats them like royalty. On some of her talk shows, she has had her dogs walking around on stage, even doing some of their business on screen for a little bit of character development.

She’s a huge fan of her little guys. She’s always advocated for helping out pets in need instead of simply buying an animal, not having a single clue about who and what could have been harming an animal in its early stages of life. She’s a strictly-rescue-only household and after her dogs, Tammy and Chunk crossed the rainbow bridge, she adopted Burt and Bernice.

Lucy Hale Rescues For Her Personal Serenity

Actresses like Lucy Hale need to know that their dogs are coming into something much better than they had before. She has really connected with her dogs, Elvis and Ethel, and lives to be their mother. She actually adopted her dog, Ethel, from another household name. She adopted Ethel from actress Kristen Bell, who was fostering Ethel at the time.

Ethel was being fostered by the ever-talented Kristen Bell and her husband, Dax. During the pandemic lockdown, the famous couple and their two daughters, Lincoln and Delta, took in a few foster pets to their family home. Suddenly with a burst of time on everyone’s hands, fostering was trendy, and those who had time to help did so. Kristen and Dax just happened to be part of those people.

Kristen Bell Rescued a Pup With An Amputated Leg

Kristen Bell and her family knew they wanted to provide a home to a dog who needed help. Luckily, that dog was a three-legged pooch named Whiskey. We’re not sure if Whiskey was the name the pooch had before or if it was what they came up with as a family (or rather, what the grown-ups came up with), but it seems fitting.

Bell announced the adoption as they all do, via Instagram posts. Her light and funny post said, “Meet Whiskey! Before he was rescued he got in a fight with a truck and lost (a leg) but who needs four legs anyway? He and dog Brother Frank share my lap (see photo evidence), the girls adore him and Dad lovingly tolerates him. No more truck stops for you, buddy. Welcome home.”

Dua Lipa and Anwar Hadid Adopted

Singer Dua Lipa and her model boyfriend, Anwar Hadid, fell in love with not only each other but with a gorgeous puppy in the summer of 2020. The two adopted Dexter from The Labelle Foundation in Los Angeles during the summer of 2020. Dexter has been lucky enough to celebrate multiple birthdays with his humans and do so in the spotlight.

On Dexter’s first birthday, the singer turned to Instagram to pay tribute to her beloved pup. “Dexter is one today. Smallest guard dog in the world. Our tiniest companion!! Like 3 peaaaaz in a pod,” she wrote. Unfortunately, though, her relationship with the youngest of the Hadid clan didn’t survive, but they’re certainly still happy to co-parent their loving pet.

JoJo Siwa Advocates for Rescue Pets

We weren’t totally surprised to see JoJo Siwa making an appearance on Paris Hilton’s pet Instagram account, HiltonPets. There, she posts about her love of her many rescue animals (especially Chiuauas) and even features other celebrities who are active in the dog rescuing world. This time around, the young up-and-coming dancer and singer JoJo Siwa was featured!

Siwa’s love for animals literally knows no bounds. She has been an active advocate for rescue animals to the point of even helping organize fundraisers to help them. In one Instagram post for an adoption event with the legendary Dylan’s Candy Bar, she wrote, “I love my rescue dog lulu soooo much and I am so happy to be a part of Dylan’s Adoption event at the grove on Sunday !!! Can’t wait to play with all the dogs !!!”

Comedian Jon Stewart Has a Rescue Horse

Whoever said you need to stick to one or two species in the rescue game clearly was biased and has never met a rescue pony. Many different species also need help from people who exploit and harm them, and this mini horse was lucky enough to fall into the loving home of Jon Stewart, the former host of The Daily Show.

Since he was young, Stewart has always had an affinity for helping animals find new homes and rehabilitate them. He’s had his own rescue dogs for years but suddenly (or maybe, less-than-suddenly), he found himself branching out to help animals across species lines that needed help. Here, he’s pictured with just one of his many rescue animals.

The Stewart Family’s Animal Rehabilitation Center

Jon Stewart and his wife, Tracey, took their love for animals a step further than most. They purchased a barn property Colt’s Neck, New Jersey, and converted the 45-acre facility into a fully functioning animal sanctuary. They partnered with an animal rescue, Farm Sanctuary, and poured their own resources into making this dream a reality.

They decided that it was necessary to work to do together as a family. They were recently in the news for rescuing two goats that were believed to have escaped from a slaughterhouse in Brooklyn, New York. The two goats were found by Metropolitan Transit Authority workers as those two creatures grazed along tracks for temporarily closed lines.

Luke Bryan Has Rescued Several Pets Throughout the Years

Country star Luke Bryan and his wife, Caroline Boyer, are huge supporters of rescuing animals. They understand the importance of giving animals who might have been dealt a tough deck of cards in their early life a second chance. Like a good country boy, Bryan grew up with a passion for animals. We’re surprised he doesn’t have a country album about them as it is.

In 2019, Bryan and Boyer adopted several rescue pets over the years, but one stands out in particular. They rescued a senior dog named Poochie in 2019. Poochie was 18 years old and in permanent hospice foster care by a rescue they were interested in. He passed away two weeks after his adoption, but this country couple really understood the value of adopting senior dogs and wanted to raise awareness of the cause.

Paris Hilton Runs Hilton Pets

Hilton Pets is a social media brand that Paris Hilton founded to raise awareness of the importance of rescuing pets. The girl who has it all made sure to choose her pets based on who didn’t quite come into the same privilege she grew up with. She dedicated herself to her rescue dogs, including the one you’d always see in her purses.

She uses her Hilton Pets social media to feature different celebrities that are making a difference in the animal rescue world. She wants to bring awareness to the importance of giving your pet a good life and wants to give shout-outs to other celebrities and general dog-loving do-gooders. She tries to use the platform as a way to not only brag about her 17 rescue pets but to be helpful in giving rescue pets good lives in the future.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Loves His Rescue Pet More Than Anything

Actor and former governor of the state of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has a passion for his rescue pets. During the 2020 pandemic lockdown, he was one of the many celebrities and average Joe’s who gave a second chance to a pet in need – everyone was home anyway, weren’t they? Well, he had an extra twist that no one could have been prepared for.

The terminator himself is a major rescuer. He spent his quarantine days not only with his dogs but with a rescue horse and rescue donkey. They were beyond ready to make themselves at home with him. He told Fox 11 Los Angeles, “It’s so wonderful when you have animals around you, and they play with you, and they do funny things, and they roam around the house.”

Justin Theroux Adopted Kuma and They’ve Been in Love Ever Since

Kuma is a pit bull rescued and brought into the loving home of Justin Theroux. He is a long-time rescuer and major bully breed advocate. He’s done so much work with the animal rescue nonprofit, Austin Pets Live. His love for his dogs has been so strong, that he has even gotten two separate tattoos in honor of each of the dogs he’d had.

Theroux had done a ton of work with Austin Pets Live, so much that he heard about dogs they were looking to give new homes and took one home himself. He’d heard a tale of a new resident of the shelter, who had been left behind in the rubble of Hurricane Harvey. She had been beaten up pretty badly from the storm and adopted her to give her a new chance.

Amanda Seyfried’s Partner in Crime, Finn, Changed Her Life for the Better

Amanda Seyfried was on the set of one of her movies when she was met by a sweet Australian Shephard stray. She decided to take this guy home. He wasn’t in great shape as he had been depending on himself for survival out in the woods somewhere. He came up to her and she knew it was love at first sight.

Now, Amanda Seyfried has made it her mission to get her doggo living his best life. She loves her little man Finn, and they’ve quickly become Hollywood’s it-couple. They’re the best woman-dog duo around, and Hollywood has really capitalized on their relationship with each other! It looks like Finn really struck gold by wandering onto the Big Love set.

Hilary Swank and Her Four Rescue Pets Have Stories About Each Other

In 2021, Hilary Swank spent her Thanksgiving evening hosting a fundraiser for rescue pets alongside Jane Lynch. Swank has been a lifelong advocate for animal welfare and has been relatively open about preferring animals to people. She’s the proud mother of four gorgeous rescue doggos, and has been at the forefront of the animal welfare advocacy movement.

In an interview, she stated, “Every year, nearly 8 million animals end up in shelters, of which approximately 4 million never make it out. We want to do the work [on this program] to make people aware of the extent of the problem, because I don’t believe that anyone’s life should be cut short.” She’s clearly got a passion for furry friends, and only has their best in mind.

The Rescues Took Over the White House

Wow, these rescue dogs really struck gold when their father was elected as the 46th President of the United States. Champion “Champ” and Major Biden have made themselves comfy in the living quarters they moved into in January 2021. However, after an aggressive incident, one of these doggos moved out and in with another family in nearby Delaware.

Now, the clan has welcomed Commander into their hearts and we couldn’t be happier to see he’s settling in smoothly. He came to the family as a puppy and has been given a second chance at a better future by being rescued. Now, he’s probably sitting in the Oval Office, chomping away on his favorite bone, while his dad, the Commander-in-Chief, worries about the big stuff.

Liam Hemsworth is All About the Rescue Pooches

Whether he’s adopting on his own or with his ex, Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth can probably be found ogling over dogs he’s seen at his local animal shelter. Hemsworth was incredibly close with his dog Tami, who he, unfortunately, lost back in 2016. Since then, he hasn’t quite recovered from the initial heartbreak, but he has managed to keep up the momentum for other rescue animals.

Hemsworth has also been the proud father to a lucky dog named Dora. Hemsworth often refers to his dogs as his true loves, proving that a dogs love is worth more than just about anything else. It’s no shock, knowing that he and another well-known celebrity pet rescuer were in a serious relationship on and off for years. And yes, she’s the next on our list.

Miley Cyrus Redefines Rescue Pet Parenting

Miley Cyrus is currently the mother to not one, not two, but eight rescue dogs. She’s got poochie fever up in here, and those dogs are surely getting the most royal treatment available to a doggo. After losing her beloved dog Mary Jane, she adopted the lovely pit mix, Angel. She gave this rescue a special name for a very special reason.

Cyrus believed that her dog, Angel, was sent as a literal Angel from her dearly departed Mary Jane. They’re star-crossed lovers and she believes that her doggy in heaven wanted her to care for another creature in the same loving way she cared about all other pets she’s taken care of throughout the years.

Selena Gomez Loves Her Rescue, Winnie

One of the biggest takeaways from Selena Gomez’s upbringing was that she understood the importance of being a good pet parent. She had grown up with rescue animals her entire life, so it was only a matter of time before she would find herself acting as a pet parent herself. The former Disney Channel star has dedicated her life to her pets.

She’s now the proud mother to quite a few doggies. Willie, Baylor, Chip, Chaz, Wallace, Fina, and her latest addition Winnie, all make seven doggos in the Gomez household. She’s taken in all of these dogs from the good in her heart, and she’s made it her mission to give as many dogs a good and loving home as possible. Thanks, Selena!

Zooey Deschanel Proudly Adopted a Bonded Pair

Actress Zooey Deschanel decided to welcome multiple rescues into her home at once when she adopted a bonded pair. The New Girl actress adopted her two loving pets when her boyfriend decided she needed some pet love in her life. So, he took her down to one of the many Los Angeles pet shelters and they stumbled upon Dot and Zelda.

Dot and Zelda were sisters who would have been further traumatized if they were separated. The 500 Days of Summer actress wasn’t prepared to take on two pets, but she knew that separating the siblings would only traumatize them further. Now, Deschanel couldn’t be happier that she adopted a bonded pair.

Zac Efron Would Die For Maca

Zac Efron has become a legend both in Hollywood and in the pet rescue world. He wasn’t necessarily going to look around for a new pet, but when he stumbled upon the Humane Pet Shop in Los Angeles, California, he knew he couldn’t resist. He had heard about a pet that would have been put down, but the shop rescued him just in the nick of time.

He rescued a mutt he called Maca, and really fell head over heels for him. He will take his dog to the set of projects that he’s working on, take him on vacation, you name it – they’ve done it together. Though they haven’t been together very long, Efron feels like they were destined to be together. They look pretty excited to be together, after all.

Taylor Swift Mixed It Up With Her Rescue Species

Taylor Swift absolutely loves her ragdoll rescue cat, Benjamin Button. The Grammy-winning musician found him as a stray who wandered onto the set of one of her music videos. They were instantly attracted to each other and Taylor knew that she had found her furry soulmate. He purrrrrrred his way right into her heart.

Since rescuing her beautiful stray, the two of them have been absolutely inseparable. She has become one of Hollywood’s biggest advocates for rescue animals and responsible sourcing for pets. She has been involved in the same animal welfare advocacy fundraisers that celebrities like Hilary Swank have been involved with.

Ryan Reynolds Fell Head Over Heels for His Rescue

Ryan Reynolds and his rescue dog, Baxter, have an origin story like something out of one of his buddy comedies. He recalled their story in an interview with ABC News – it honestly sounded like something that would have been the plot of a man who finds out his dog is actually a better detective than his partner at the police station. These two are truly a riot.

“I saw this big, dumb-looking retriever staring up at me… I whispered to him, ‘Hey, let’s get the hell out of here.’ And he jumped up, like he spoke English fluently. He came with me, he jumped in the car, and we’ve been best buddies ever since,” Reynolds shared in an interview with ABC News. These two were just destined to be in each other’s lives.
